Education PhD Programs Online Help To Move Teaching Careers Forward

December 30, 2009

It is true that the demands of a teaching career can make it difficult to pursue an advanced degree.  However, education phd programs online can make it easier – because you’ll be able to complete most requirements at home on your own schedule.  The best part is that education PhD programs online may be less expensive and are eligible for student financial aid as well.

Overcoming Misplaced Priorities

With the corporate and Wall Street takeover of government and society and the corresponding transfer of wealth and resources from those who work for it to those who simply move it from one place to another, it seems that educators are increasingly required to do more and more with less and less – making it exceptionally difficult for the average teacher to advance his/her career.  One of the keys is distance learning; PhD education programs over the World Wide Web make it more feasible for more teachers to move up in their field.

In fact, for many, a phd education program online may be the only way to achieve those goals.  The requirements for an online phd program in education can be completed at home or at school before or after instructional time and during prep periods.  This kind of flexibility is just one of the beauties of education PhD programs online.

No Need To Worry About Accreditation

Education PhD programs online are offered though major state colleges and universities, so accreditation is not an issue; in fact, most accreditation colleges and universities offer distance learning.  PhD education therefore, when completed, entitles you to the same rights and privileges as it would any other PhD program.  Online learning simply means that instruction have been delivered over the World Wide Web.

Go At Your Own Pace

The most important advantage to an online PhD program in education lies in the ability to complete courses at your own pace.  When completing a PhD education online, you usually have up to one calendar year to complete an individual class – or you can complete it over a summer or semester break – it’s up to you.  It is yet one more example of how the flexibility of a distance learning PhD education can assist you in meeting your goals.

With education PhD programs online, it is usually not necessary to actually go to the university in person until you are prepared to present your dissertation.  This makes an online PhD program in education much more economical.  Most educators today find this to be the one best reason to take education PhD programs online.

December 28, 2009

Are you one of those who are looking forward to making a career in the field that can offer you unlimited opportunities for specializing and work at different environments?  Well, in case you answer is yes then no doubt nursing is one that profession that can surely be the most exciting and fulfilling career choice.  Today it is considered among few professions that can even offer frequent options for continuing education and the facility to participate or contribute directly in patient care.  As a nurse, you support and care for people who are ill. As a nurse, you act as the key professional in healthcare industry who generally performs different procedures as per the instructions made by the medical doctor or senior nurse practitioners.

Nursing as a profession has a very exciting role that combines the best of caring skills and along with medical knowledge.  These days, nurses can be found in almost every area of health care.  They have a wide presence in various intensive care units and different emergency centers as well.  They work in community and smaller private clinics as well as in supportive roles in different cosmetic practice centers or specialist physician offices.  In addition to this, another area where nurses play a key role is in child development and health.  Today you may find many nurses who are working in the community or in schools, and playing the key role in promoting health education campaigns.

If we talk about the career outlook of this profession then it seems to be very exciting. In fact, with almost 100,000 vacant positions and the constant booming requirement for healthcare workers, the scope for the nursing field is turning out to be more exciting and promising. In addition to this, the key aspect to note is that today the way health care is directed has also changed drastically.  The requirement for more hospital beds has risen.  Adding to this, the health care has become defined as it has moved gradually to the community and home.  These days, many nurses are providing support and care for patients in their homes or in long-term care facilities.  Ultimately, one cannot deny the fact that today the opportunities in nursing are far broader than it use to be a decade ago.  So by now if you have made up your mind and decided to make a career in this profession then attaining a proper nursing education and training from best nursing school is must.  Training to become a nurse is a simple and fairly clear-cut method. Generally, the practice basically revolves around completing a nursing program and attains a diploma or degree from an accredited higher learning school.  While a diploma course takes around three years to complete approximately, a degree program on another hand takes three to four years.

For example- if you are looking forward to making a career as a certified nursing assistant (CNA), you will primarily require a high school diploma or a General Educational Development diploma (GED).   Besides this, if you want to make a career as a licensed practical nurse or a registered nurse, in that situation your preparation needs to be more extensive.  You will require a high school diploma along with a diploma or degree from a nursing program as well. However, today you may even find many students who are also opting for a bachelor’s degree in order to start a nursing career.  This is because many hospitals and other employers offer a good salary to nurses based on the nurse’s education level.  You must also not forget that obtaining a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) may even provide you a good head start if you decide to acquire further education in order to branch off into any specific nursing specialty.

Making a career in this profession can be the major and life-changing decision and so one need to have a great deal of thought.  You must remember that working as a nurse; you could be the key personnel who can make a great difference in the health and lives of patients throughout the United States.

Grant Money For College Education

December 24, 2009

With the job arena still very clearly demonstrating the recent recession in the economy, more and more jobseekers are unfortunately finding that the jobs available are going to people that have higher college educations.  Just like any difficult situation, there are a couple of ways to respond to this fact; one is to be upset that you are getting passed over for positions you easily qualify for simply because you do not have the required diploma.  The other way of responding is to acknowledge that in this day and age, corporate hiring teams require that new employees be highly educated, and start looking ways to pay for some advanced schooling.  One of the many grants for a college education would be an excellent option to research.

For the most part, there are four types of federal and state government agency grant programs available to those who are interested in securing grant money for a college education: the FSEO Grant, the Pell program, the Academic Competitiveness Grant, and the SMART program.  All four grants are operated by the United States Federal Government, in which money is granted to a qualifying individual for a university-level education, and because these are grants – the money never needs to be paid back to the granter.  All four programs mandate that you submit the FAFSA application for Federal student support, and some require that you meet other standards too.  Let’s take a quick look at each program, what the program is, and who qualifies for it.

The FSEO Grant, or Federal Supplemental Equal Opportunity program, is awarded based on monetary need of the applicant.  Individuals who are awarded this grant demonstrate a measurable financial need and are given a pre-defined amount of grant funds according to how much FSEO money their respective educational institution has, and on how much financial assistance they are receiving from other fiscal sources. The Pell program provides more financial assistance than the FSEOG, with less stringent financial need requirements. Naturally it has additional suitability stipulations like attending an eligible school, making good grades in your classes and of course, being a US citizen or resident.  For younger students, this option may be best saved for when you no longer have to record your family’s income on the FAFSA application.

The Educational Competitiveness grant only applies to first and second year students, and is primarily based on how difficult your studies were in earlier schools.  Each state holds its own opinion of what a “difficult” course of study in high school is and these courses can be research on the US Department of Education’s official web site.  Along the same vein, the SMART Grant, or Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent program, is addressed at the third and fourth year level with students enrolled in technical fields of study like mathematics and various types of engineering.

If by some remote chance you don’t qualify for any of the programs discussed above and find that you cannot apply for a government grant – then you may need to expand the scope of your search.  There exist a large number of available grant programs and other financial assistance initiatives that will contribute large sums of money to send qualified individuals to college for a higher education.  For example, the American Medical Association sponsors a number of programs that will train doctors and other medical personnel.  If for some reason you have expended all available grant programs without success, there are a number of low cost loans available from state and federal government agencies and non-profit foundations that are pretty easy to apply for and nearly any college student should meet the requirements for.

How is Online Education Different from Traditional Education.

December 23, 2009

These days, the internet has grown into a veritable wealth of information for college seekers.  Everything from applying for financial aid to taking a course can be accomplished online.  Now, a student can even obtain online degrees from one of many schools offering online education as a viable alternative to a traditional classroom education.  How different are these two methods of teaching, and do either prove better for the student?  There’s an abundance of information regarding online education, and distance education is becoming increasingly popular for students everywhere.

First and foremost, there are some obvious benefits in obtaining online instant degrees.  For example, juggling a job, school and a home can be very difficult as far as commuting to the classroom every day.  With online education, you eliminate the need to attend classes, and instead access your coursework from an internet website.  This presents an obvious benefit to the overworked college student because his commute is basically slashed in half.  What’s more, many distance education programs allow students to complete the coursework any time during the day, while still adhering to overall deadlines.  This allows for flexibility that a traditional classroom setting can ordinarily not provide.

However, is an online education truly comparable to the type of education a student would receive in an actual classroom? Many professionals in the field say yes, and certainly students seeking online degrees can confirm this response.  Not only does online learning provide a stimulating environment for students, but it promotes even interaction among every student because everyone has a say in classroom discussions.  What’s more, online education programs allow each student to learn with the methods that work best for them.  Plus, many employers respect online degrees as much as a traditional college degree, so there’s really no difference in the amount of education or respect a student will receive when attending an online college.

While traditional colleges will never be eliminated, there’s definitely been an increase in the amount of students attending online colleges in recent years.  Many people choose to follow the online education route for the diversity of material they can find, or because the teachers are more approachable via the internet than they would be in a classroom setting.  Students definitely need discipline and self-motivation to succeed in obtaining online degrees, but there’s still the same level of help and support from teachers and students online that there would be in a classroom. What’s more, internet college students are learning skills that will be beneficial to them in the workforce and beyond because of the way technology is evolving today.

Online degrees are becoming an increasingly popular way to obtain a college education and many students are turning to online education because of the quality of material, convenience and the level of flexibility inherent in distance education programs.  Because there’s no distinct differences between an online education and a traditional education, students are assured they are receiving the same kind of education that they would in a brick and mortar setting.  There are definite benefits to online degree programs, and students with discipline and motivation can and will succeed greatly in online education programs.

Get an Education and Get a Job!

December 22, 2009

“Before you become too entranced with gorgeous gadgets and mesmerizing video displays, let me remind you that information is not knowledge, knowledge is not wisdom and wisdom is not foresight.  Each grows out of the other, and we need them all.” Arthur C. Clarke

Looking for a job can be an education in and of itself.  The old saying is that looking for a job is the hardest job that you will ever have.  That may well be true, especially in these trying economic times.  You write, rewrite and revise your resume a million times.  You send out query letters by the ream. You have filled out so many applications that you have carpal tunnel and permanent ink stains on your fingers.  You have gone to interview upon interview, the faces of human resources all blending in to each other.  What is holding you back?  Why can’t you get a job?

One of the first things you should take a long hard look at is your education.  Did you get handed your high school diploma and then stop trying to learn?  Were your grades less than stellar?  Were you satisfied with just good enough to get by?  The world moves far too quickly for mediocre education, or for someone to just take yesterday’s knowledge and proceed into the future. Look at computers for instance.  When I was in high school, computers were huge, block shaped behemoths taking up most of a desk.  Computer class was only offered as an elective at that time.

In the business world, those who make decisions want to surround themselves with people who are smart, savvy, people who know things.  Of course there is always some specialized training when a new job is started, but no one wants to start from scratch so to speak with their employees.  An education that goes beyond what is required by law will say that you are dedicated to bettering yourself, that you are a real ” go-getter” and that just well enough will not be adequate for you. CEOs like that kind of attitude.

If there are too similar applicants for a job, Human Resources might use education as the tie breaker, and you want to make sure that you come out on top of that race.  If your educational and career goals mesh up well, you will be sure to go far. It should be written above the board (or the clock where more students will actually see it) in every classroom across the country:  Get an education and get a job.

Information Technology Employment Outlook for Washington DC.

December 21, 2009

The information technology (IT) field covers a vast range of employment opportunities.  According to the U.S. Department of Labor statistics 264,000 jobs were held by computer and information systems managers in 2006.  The amount of jobs available in this occupation is expected to grow over the next decade, as more technology is introduced into the business world.  One job search site for Washington, D.C. and its surrounding cities has over 3,386 employment opportunities in the IT field listed where the next highest listing is 1,093 for Management and Supervision positions.

These job search sites have many information technology jobs. The largest group (1,255) listed positions in the general information technology area.  Software development (719) and Operations and Support (686) were the next two highest areas of IT employment offered.  Of the 3,386 positions listed, at least 2,818 required a college degree.  Of the 2,064 positions listed specifically in the Washington, D.C. area, 1,052 required a college degree.  Many of the listings did not provide details as to requirements or salary being offered.  The salaries that were provided ranged from $50 per hour up to $150,000 per year.  Most salaries were dependent upon experience and knowledge levels.

Information from the US Department of Labor

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, most employers prefer hiring computer and information systems management personnel who have MBAs in a general IT area, rather than a specified area, such as software development.  Most require that the IT manager has experience in a general business area, as well as with communication and technology.  Those companies that hire IT personnel without degrees usually require the people to have many years of actual work experience and expertise in specific areas.  Many of the IT computer and information systems managers earn their MBAs while working in the IT field.

Educational Opportunities in the IT Field

Many Online universities offer information systems management education. These degrees incorporate the training needed for IT management in these areas. Quite a few offer online courses to make it easier for those who cannot attend traditional universities. Some companies will financially assist their IT employees to earn degrees.

Some insurance companies, government agencies, and colleges often offer internships to students working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the information technology field.  Many other companies also offer internships to students working towards IT degrees.  These internships frequently turn into full-time positions with the company upon graduation.

Using Unemployment as an Opportunity to Learn.

December 18, 2009

As unemployment remains high across the United States, many of the unemployed are returning to school to further their career training and education.  Some are seeking to further their existing education, while others are seeking the training they need to enter a new field.  Many colleges are reporting double-digit increases in their enrollment numbers.  As the competition for jobs remains fierce, it is a great time for job seekers to further their personal career training and education while becoming more appealing to potential employers.  Online Universities are helping people all across the country achieve their educational goals.

Brushing Up or Starting Over

Professionals who find themselves without work are finding this a good time to return to college.  Rather than being a negative experience, they are using this opportunity to return to school to earn the master’s degree they always desired, but never had the time for.  As some traditionally sound job fields start to dry up, some workers find this a good time to retrain for a new career.  Many employees find themselves out of work as local factories move or shut down altogether.  Some look to vocational schools to learn a new trade.  Popular career training and education fields include criminal justice, internet technology, medical assistants, and medical billing.

“But I Can’t Afford It”

Some people fear the cost of college, and view it as a barrier to learning.  Many Online colleges are offering special loans and grants to help the unemployed finance their education.  Some colleges are even going so far as to offer a selection of tuition-free classes in order to help students offset the cost of textbooks and other expenses.

In today’s economy, it is important to keep your job skills relevant and up to date.  Career training and education opportunities are a chance to stay on top of your game, and a great way to stand out in a pool of candidates when returning to the work force.
